Hi there, first timer. Thanks for this forum and this awesome piece of software.

I'm building a little arcade machine with retropie to make it use mame and other emulators (with max. 2 buttons)
Everything works so far. So I wanted to show off to my girlfriend and all of a sudden the control settings for NES didn't work anymore.

Button 1+2 are L_CTRL and L_ALT, Start is 1 and select is 5. This works flawlessly in Mame and Retropie. It also worked in all the NES packages... now it's X+Y for the Buttons, Enter for Start, LSHIFT for Select. No idea what happened. I tried reinstalling the packages, I also tried changing the control settings in /opt/retropie/configs/nes/retroarch.cfg... all it does is set everything to "non" after retrying the config so I couldn't even change it manually.

Hardware is: PI Zero, Adafruit 2.4 TFT screen (with fbcp), Using GPIO for controls and sound output via PWM.

Also, I get sound stutter on NES. I thought the Zero would have enough power to play NES perfectly but I get some stutter. I use the OP

Please let me know if I should provide any other information.

      Best,

      Olli

Ok, I had to modify the Retroarch.cfg for NES correctly to get it up and running again. I still encounter lags and looking at videos online it should handle NES/SNES just fine for the most part.

Ok...I'm using this video as reference:

DK is running flawlessly on his Zero. The only difference: He's using a composite monitor, not a PITFT. Could that actually be the reason why mine is running crappy?

@Endprodukt just curious, what is the amperage output on your power supply?

It has 2A. Should be OK :)

another try to gather information/help. is something wrong with my system or is it indeed to weak for emulation with a pitft?

@Endprodukt I've read that the PiTFT screen can't keep up with some of the games but the analog composite screen works fine. The PiTFT is software driven and any load on the Pi could cause a slowdown of the screen refresh and sound distortion.

@glennlake makes absolutely sense... I whish I'd knew earlier. I tried to find a composite screen with 2.4" without luck.

@Endprodukt The smallest composite screen i've found is from GearBest. I have ordered this screen and am waiting for its arrival. (The world is a small place unless you need something brought to you from the other side). Here is the link,"http://www.gearbest.com/development-boards/pp_29447.html" I think this is like the one used in the video you linked.

@glennlake He used the Adafruit one. How did you make it work on 5v?

@Endprodukt I haven't received my screen yet but what I was thinking of doing was to use an up-converter to raise the 5 volts to the 12 volts it needs. You might check with wermy on this forum. Here is the link to one of his youtube vids that may help. "
