Black screen issue

ok, i am running ubuntu to run retropie. i had it setup on my old laptop everything was working perfectly. i switch to a desktop pc and reinstall everything. when i launch the games from emulationstation. everything up til i launch the game works perfectly. when i load a game i can hear it but not display. which i am assuming it output to a different port on my videocard. how can i change the setting on that?

Can you choose verbose/debug logging from the Runcommand launch menu and then post the log file (from /dev/shm/runcommand.log) to pastebin.com ?

RetroArch has a setting to choose which monitor to use for video output, but if you're not having multiple monitors connected, it wouldn't be useful. Try bringing up the RGUI with Hotkey + X and change that, assuming it would show the menu.

i am using display port on my rx 480 card, if that matter.
current setup as of now PC > DP > monitor 1,
i am planning to do
PC> DP > monitor 1
> HDMI > overhead monitor 2
when i use that verbose, nothing show one screen.
no luck on the RGUI, when i push that i guess the menu must show up on the screen that i cant see.

The verbose setting was to add more into to the log file, I didn't think it would change the video output. Says in the log that resolution is 1600x1200 - is that correct for your monitor ?
Try to run RetroArch standalone, without any RetroPie configs, just to rule out any issue with the default configuration. Run

HOME=/tmp/ra /opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/bin/retroarch -v --menu

and see if anything changes.

yes, that's the correct resolution. the build was 20.1" dell monitor that mod to fit into an arcade 1up cab.
run the code, retroarch launch, but still black screen.

Did you install the AMD driver for your card ? Did you try with the open source (radv) driver instead ?

That doesn't seem to work at all - but it looks like it's using the same GPU driver (proprietary AMD install).

If the vulkaninfo command is ok, then try switching the RetroArch's video driver from gl to vulkan in /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg. It should be the line with video_driver.
