      @tackett1980 it would still be helpful for you to know if the crashing issue is an emulation issue or an unstable overclock. If it's an unstable overclock then you're going to eventually corrupt your SD card.

        You need to find a .vmi savegame from someone else and then load that onto your Pi. Google is your friend.

        From memory I did it different then the description in the link. Can t remember though as this is a few years ago. I think the program I used was called vmuexplorer

          Well, that’s true.
          How could we figure that out? This is the only game that crashes like that and it only does it if I make it past stage 1.

          If the overclock is scaled back there’s no way I could try to reproduce the crashing as it would be impossible to play the game.

          Is there a utility or something that could give us an answer?

          Thank you. I’ll look into this after work today.

            I got to say
            Just played that and it didnt get stuck after stage 1 working pretty well .
            using pi3b+ overclocked .
            about the save u need to converted your .vmi files to vmu_save_A1.bin and put that in the \RETROPIE\configs\dreamcast\reicast . folder
            If u using the reicast-audio-omx or reicast-audio-oss.
            With the lr-flycast \RETROPIE\bios\dc
            and its also a bit more leggy there (but still going on from stage 1 dont get stuck)...

              There are other games you could test with, quake 3 for example is a game that pushes the pi really hard and is generally a good way to test overclock stability. Ioquake3 is in optional packages I think and the install includes the freeware version.

              Can you post your overclock settings for me to review? I have had tons of pi 3s, and have spent a lot of time testing overclocks on them so I know pretty much what the maximum capability is.

              I also am not getting any crashing in that game on my pi3. So you could also try reinstalling reicast (try binary and source) or try a different rom.

                      @tackett1980 that's a 3b then. 1450mhz cpu overclock on a 3b is pretty insane. My 3b+ isn't even stable at 1450mhz. You gpu overclocks are pretty tame and shouldn't be an issue. Remove the cpu overclock and try the game again. Also you may be able to potentially push your core frequency a little higher. Most of my pi3s could go up to at least 550mhz (no guarantees yours can). Core frequency matters much more with reicast on the pi 3.

                        So how do you think this would do?

                        gpu_mem=450
                        arm_freq=1400
                        over_voltage=6
                        sdram_freq=550
                        core_freq=550
                        gpu_freq=450

                          @tackett1980 no-one knows how your pi will stand up to overclocking. every pi is different. try them?

                          gpu_mem is a useless setting on a pi3: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Memory-Split

                          sdram_freq... mine wasn't stable at 500 so i would have thought 550 wouldn't work, but who knows.

                          that combo of overclocks doesn't make much sense to me. is reicast even CPU bound??

                            It’s strange then because with an arm of 700 vs an arm of 1450 there is significant and noticeable lag. Game is not playable.

                              @tackett1980 pi3's default cpu speed is 1.2ghz so where does 700 come from?

                                The config says default arm is 700.

                                It’s been so long idk what the defaults even look like

                                  @tackett1980 that's because the config hasn't changed since the pi1. it's misleading - to get the default just remove/comment out your overclock.

                                        @tackett1980 have you tried updating reicast like I suggested? Or tried a different rom? Game works fine for me.

                                          Yes I updated it. I’m going to try the same rom in flycast. If it still does it I may try a different one.

                                          Thanks for all the information btw.

                                            Just tried the same rom in flycast and it plays horrible but it doesn’t crash. So must be either one of my settings or something up with reicast.

                                            I’m reinstalling it now.
