So, after a huge amount of research, a long and arduous wait for Adafruit shipping, and an Amazon gift card, I now have almost everything I need to make a handheld. Parts:
      KUMAN 3.5 inch touch screen
      Raspberry Pi 0 W
      PocketJuice 5000 mAh portable charger
32 GB Sandisk Ultra micro SD card
      Rii micro USB Y-cable
      Apple headphones
Mini HDMI to VGA adapter with built-in audio jack
      Ipega PG-9157

      I still need:
      VGA cable
      USB keyboard

Any comments, ideas, suggestions, or pointers are appreciated.

It's held together with hot glue. One of the thumbsticks is messed up. Those spacers between the controller and the screen are actually legos. The thing labeled VCE is an adapter allowing me to plug a pair of earbuds into the mini HDMI port.
