      System:

      • Raspberry Pi 3B+
      • list itemRetroPie v4.5.1
      • Using Mame2003

I was playing R-Type just fine on my system. I don't remember making any changes to the system, but suddenly the game stopped working. The rom will load and go through a few of the normal startup messages. But it will hit a point where it says "ROM OK RAM OK" and then it just stops.

I had saved a game before, so I thought it might have somehow been that. I searched the entire file system for any file with "rtype" in it and deleted it. I then re-loaded the rtype.zip file to the raspberry pie, but the exact same thing happened.

I tried running with the verbose logging but didn't see anything in the log file.

Is there anything else that I could try to get this working again. It was my favorite game as a kid.

      Thanks in advance.

@corminos said in Rom suddenly stopped working:

Can you still post it on pastebin.com ?
If the board boot messages are shown, then the game starts - do you have auto-load/auto-save enabled for the game ? Which folder did you use to copy the ROM ?

I've copied the runcommand.log file to pastebin here: https://pastebin.com/6hmEKBjF

I was tailing the log file while it was loading and the last line "[INFO] Eviron SET_GEOMETRY" appeared before the "ROM OK / RAM OK" appeared on the screen. Then nothing else was logged.

Did you try re-installing the lr-mame2003 core ? Are all games affected or just R-Type ?

I did not try re-installing lr-mame2003. I will look into how to do that.

It seems to be only this game. I've tried a few, but I haven't tried all my games. This is the one I go back to often.

I tried reinstalling it (I think). Here is the process that I followed:
Retropie > Retropie Setup > Manage Packages > Manage main packages > lr-mame2003 > update from source

But that did not seem to do anything.

This looks like a corrupted ROM or NVRAM file - but you already said you've re-copied the ROM from your PC. Can you try copying it to a different folder - arcade or mame-libretro, depending on where you copied it initially - and start it again from that folder ?

@corminos I think i know what the problem is, some Irem games will stall like this on the rom/ram check on bootup if you have the service mode option
in the dip switch settings turned on, if that is the case here just turn it off and then either do an in game reset or just exit outta the game and
it should then work correctly next time you load it.

                    EDIT
Yip i just turned on the service mode to see what would happen and i got the same problem with R-type, i turned off the service mode again and it booted up fine.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I looked up how to get into service mode and is f2. I have my hotkey input_save_state set to f2. One time, I must have not hit the hotkey.

And now I'm going to re-map these buttons.
