But for Mame I can't find this kind of simple game

      Maybe Canyon Bomber ?

      Yes, this looks like, thx!
If there are others (maybe also with a little bether graphic), also welcome.
And, is there a webpage where I can search for "Canyon bomber" and than I can see similar games ?

Could be. I just looked at some screenshots online and it looks vaguely familiar. If I play it that might jar my memory. I have a better than average memory of my childhood. I still remember sitting in the high chair as a baby, lol. This one has been bugging me for years though. The game was a rental one weekend and my dad and I were playing it. I remember him talking about fighting a boss called "Tiny". For all I know he came up with the name himself knowing his sense of humor, lol. In any case I would like to find the game but I fear I may remember too little of it to track it down. I will take a closer look at your suggestion. Thanks.

@drake999 The first boss of that game is named tiny. The Japanese and US versions the boss looks different.

@quicksilver It could very well be the one I'm looking for. I also remember we weren't very far into the game either when we encountered this "Tiny" so you might be right on the money.

                  Hi.

Looking for an arcade game I used to play on the way to school in the early 90s. Brawler game like Golden Axe, but a boss or other character was called 'Yamato' or 'Yamamoto' or something like that would cut you in half with his sword, rendering your credit gone in the blink of an eye. Any ideas?

                  Thanks.

                        Just a hint:
                        Search in

for the game first, is much quicker ;-)

streets of rage 3 has a boss called yamato, but that wasn't an arcade game, but on the sega home console: megadrive/genesis:

final fight's second boss is called sodom and has a couple of swords:

Thanks everyone. Yes! It was captain commando! During the character selection I remembered 'Mack The Knife'. Fantastic work everyone. Now to lose the next hour or two on it...

Do you have a link to the game; I can't find anything about this game ...
Searching for "Scorched Earth" like game running under MAME or (S)NES.

@top-specci Hmm...I'm not sure about MAME as i'm new to retro gaming. But how odd! The game VGA Tanks that I remembered on my 486 is a top down tank game, not like the one I remembered.

Would be interested though if there was one on MAME!

@vasquez109 LOVED that game so much, I made a clone of it for the old Model 100 Laptop!

This is driving me crazy for decades at this point!
It's either a Sega Master System of Mega Drive/Genesis game. It was a platformer and the only level I can remember is an underwater one. The main things I remember were having to avoid sharp obstacles (Maybe sea anemone?) and the boss of the level was an lantern fish. You had to hit the lantern on the fish's head to do damage to him and his colour palette would change as he took damage.

I distinctly remember my mum playing it but doesn't remember. Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you

Not sure if I can help but could it be this one

Although this might be a bit too new.

One game that had me racking my brains for literally weeks was one where you controlled a guy in an arctic location, and had to avoid lightening. I couldn't remember if it was for Atari 800XL, or Amiga 1200 as I had both of them. He had to raise flags or something. But the main thing was you could design your own levels, and play them, which I thought was a fantastic idea. I was sure character was called Pierre.

I finally found out what it was after searching the net for arctic games, ski games, pierre games, Atari games, Amiga games. It just popped up in my head.

                                          Polar Pierre!
