scraped videos not playing

The videos for the games on Emulationstatation are not working.
I know that there have been problems with the scrapers lately. But I created an account on https://www.screenscraper.fr/ and was able to run the scraper, with the option set to get videos too.
I had tried both skyscraper and Stephen Selph scraper before I added my account credentials to the skyscraper.
I see that in my ~/Retropie/roms/mame-libretro/images directory I have the video files that correspond to the file name in the gamelist.xml file.
But in Emulationstation the videos will not play. If I open one of these mp4 videos on my PC, I am able to get the sound, but the video itself is black. I'm not sure if that is because all the files are corrupted, or if I'm missing some codec on my windows PC that is used for these video samples?
These videos were working before I ran my scraper for the first time when everyone else was having trouble with the scrapers.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Some videos use an incompatible codec - notably arcade videos. There are a few scripts that have been published in the forums that convert those video to a compatible format.

@corminos If you know how to add the video files yourself, this is a great website for MAME videos in correct format and play as they should : http://www.progettosnaps.net/index.php
@mods I hope this site is allowed.

@mr-berlin
I see this post is a little old, but I have exactly the same problem. Did you find a solution in the end?I have read the posts above and will try out the suggestions, but I was hoping that "scaping" would automate the process so that I did not have to manually download or re-code all those videos.
FYI - Raspberry Pi 4B 1GB Retropie 4.7.4 - Scraped with Steven Self’s optional scraper package.
