      @AlphaBetaPie

Just a hint: I now have several multi disc games. I am using the latest retropie version (updated using the retropie setup script) and using the retroarch menu (settings/input/hotkey binds) i assigned hotkeys to the actions "Disk Eject toggle", "disk next" and "disk prev". This way i can change disks easiliy when i am in a game, without going through the retroach menu's...

I also for you. I see in you gamelist.xml you have art assigned to the m3u entry in emulationstation. How did you scrape this? I have an issue that everytime i run skyscraper, my artwork entries for m3u files are removed from the gamelist.xml ...

@AlphaBetaPie You can always update your RetroPie version and/or packages - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Updating-RetroPie/#using-the-retropie-setup-script - without re-installing a new image.

After some searching in the menu, I found options to install each section from source indivutaly, and the cores. They are downloading now to my Pie. Hopefully when they are all done, I'll have the latest versions across the board. If not, I'll check back in on that.

The gamelist.xml I'm using was a custom. I can tell you my normal procedure was to just have a folder of .zip files, and run them through SkraperUI_Beta8, telling it what I wanted (2d cover, screenshot, video, marquee, etc). Then I have to sometimes go back and fill in the gaps of things it missed by just Googling images. Can be a paint, but once you do it once, you will always have it. But renaming to .m3u will be something I probably have to do after this is all sorted it. The XML didn't come that way by default (but maybe it could be setup to, not sure).

This is all done virtualy, and I have on screen text notices turned off. So it wasn't telling me anything.

That's why it's easier in the new version, instead of a single 'Cycle Tray Status' there are explicit 'Eject' or 'Insert' labels so you know the state of the virtual 'cdrom tray'.

After updating all my emulator packages in the setup script (including all of RetroArch, EmulationStation and RetroPie menus themselves), I ended up with PCSX-ReARMed r22 f542ede. I assume this is the latest PSX emulator for Pie (updating from source, not binary). However, when I go into the disc cycle menu, I'm still not seeing those "disc eject" labels you mention. Or did you mean that the onscreen text would display that (which I wouldn't see, since I have those turned off). Just wanting to make sure I'm clear on what you're talking about there.

No, if you go into Disk Control menu and have a .m3u it would look like this:

If you eject the disk, then you're positioned to the Disk index sub-menu so you can easily switch the disk and the previous menu turns into Insert Disk:

@mitu Strange, mine seems different than yours on my Pie. As you can see, it looks like this (except I set the color text to yellow, just so I can read it easier). But this is my default, before and after any updates. Wonder why it's different than yours? We're using similar retropie and retroarch versions yes?

@AlphaBetaPie This doesn't look like an updated RetroArch.

I thought it was. I went in through the Retropie Setup menu and had the option to update the different packages. Retroarch was an option, as well as Emulation Station and some other menus. I updated from source. Perhaps binary is the needed area? How can I source my current Retroarch version to compare to yours? And what is your version?

Did you update your RetroPie-Setup script first, before updating the packages ? The latest version of RetroArch in RetroPie is 1.8.5.

I did not. Good tip. Didn't realize that would block all the others from updating to their most current. I did that, then re-updated everything again. Now I have the labels you're talking about (and the handy on-screen prompt that tell me what disc is loading for each game). Much appreciated. Now, getting back to the other issue below...

                        Saturn Update

So, I was able to experiment using the PSX to make sure I knew exactly how to load multi disc games using the .m3u method. Everything works great, I even use the same Final Fantasy discs that were used in the tutorial. Here are screenshots of my successful PlayStation setup (problems with Saturn further down...)
                        03.jpg
                        02.png

Now, I'm back to my original problem. When I try this EXACT same setup with Saturn (using lr-yabause), it won't work. The best I can get is it will load the Saturn dashboard (because of the bios I have installed), but says NO DISC. I should also mention, that when in the quick menu of lr-yabause, there is no "disc controller" option located where you'd find is for PSX. So I'm wondering if lr-yabause is either incomplete or broken on the Pie? Here is my Saturn setup, maybe someone can see somewhere I've went wrong. Also including a shot of my es_system file, showing the addition of the .m3u to Saturn (to mirror the PSX setup), which should work, but doesn't for some reason.

                          Maybe lr-yabause doesn't support .m3u files.

That's my fear. It does great with zip files. So any idea where I could check this out for sure? Is there a developer or site that would know? Or is there a Pie/Saturn alternative. Again, I don't care if it runs like crap. I just want it to load at all, for the setup. Then I can tinker later.

Looking at the core info file, as distributed by the Libretro team, it doesn't look like it supports .m3u playlists - https://github.com/libretro/libretro-core-info/blob/master/yabause_libretro.info.

Thanks for checking on that. I still want Saturn to be part of my collection, even if it's just a placeholder for a future update that actually works. So is there an alternative pie emulator that operators more like the PSX version? Or, what has the community come up with in order to handle multi disc games (IE: a bin/cue file for each disc), outside of the .m3u setup? Can you launch each disc from the menu manually? For earlier in the post, I believe someone mentioned that the save file wouldn't work that way (if I'm not mistaken).

@AlphaBetaPie I am encountering this problem myself at the moment - did you find a resolution? I think Beetle-Saturn supports .m3u files but I haven't tried that yet, and I am pretty sure it doesn't run Panzer Dragoon Saga well enough for that to be worth pursuing too far.

@adambegood @AlphaBetaPie @mitu I was adding retroachievements support to yabause this morning, and used this opportunity to backport my m3u support from kronos. Don't ask about yabasanshiro.

The only - other - format that packs multiple disks into one 'game' is PBP, which is specific to PS1 emulation.

What are the pros and cons of a multi disc game that is in a single file PBP formated rom? Im not sure how accurate or true it is but according to CD Romance

"PSX2PSP: Are eboots made by random people, usually with a program called PSX2PSP (there are others: Popstation GUI, IceTea). While most of this files work fine, many have issues (No sound, random crashes, disc change errors), and some don't work at all (black screen on startup)."

The info I found is there's a program to convert your ps1 games to the pbp format. PSX2PSP v1.4.2

@barbudreadmon Thank you for doing that. I'm not in sync with the Saturn emulation community, so admittedly I'm a bit out of the loop. Can you or anyone help me understand the controversy surrounding yabasanshiro? Not asking for support or work on it, but just wondering why requesting disc control be added the retro arch core version is so taboo? I'm sure I'm missing something (and I'm just curious).
