      Pi 4, 4 gb model
      Retropie 4.6
      Official Power Supply
      Drastic installed from experimental menu

Pressing M to go to the menu makes the screen turn black. While ostensibly this seems like it's locked up, if you press up or down on the keyboard it brings the screen back into view. However every keypress you make actually presses the key you just pressed (confused yet?) making navigation a complete nightmare. For example, if I press M, screen goes black, then I press down, screen comes back. Now I press up, and the navigation goes down. I press B, and navigation goes up. I press A, and navigation presses B, etc.

As a temporary fix, is there a CFG file of some type I can edit and enter the button assignments so I can at least play games properly? I'd also like to enable the upscaling.

Yes, it's a known problem - for the moment there isn't a fix. This has been reported a few times in the forums already.
