Quick (Probably Stupid) question, does updating through the software also add new packages/emulators?

Not sure which build I am on, I update through the system.

Just a simple and stupid question, when you do a system update through the RetroPi software, does it also download the new packages and emulators or just update the ones I have?

I'm trying to get the normal Pc-engine emulator, not the fast version since it seems to have emulation issues with a few games (Cutscenes don't play right in Last Alert, some just freeze entirely like the final cutscene, Exile doesn't play right.. etc etc)

This is not available for the pi 3b+, the pi 3b+ just isn't powerful enough.

I didn't know the difference!
Someone told me I needed the normal emulator months ago and requested it to be in the package upgrades is all.

I honestly thought the "fast" version was more process intensive by the name alone

I've since upgraded to a Pi 4 4GB of Ram
I was hoping the PCE version would have been supported.

So what is the difference between Libertro-PCE and Libertro-PCE-FAST?
When I was discussing this before, the person mentioned I could manually download and install the other version, but I couldn't get it running. They mentioned that they had asked for it to become part of the package/experimental packages.

It's just sort of annoying that a few games really don't run well under FAST, or just skip/break cutscenes entirely.. still a good emulator for the most part.

@Jiryn here is a quote from lr-beetle-pce's GitHub repository:

"This PC Engine module is more accurate than the Fast module, which trades away typically unneeded accuracy in favor of speed. Unlike Beetle PCE Fast, Beetle PCE retains built-in SuperGrafx support. SuperGrafx support can alternatively be found in the Beetle SuperGrafx core."

There is talk of adding lr-beetle-pce for use with the pi 4: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/issues/2961
