video issue via AV receiver
-
have my Pi3 connected direct to the TV via HDMI with no issues, when I have it connected via the Onkyo AV receiver I get a blank screen.
The receiver comes back with the message displaying " no signal"
this was not always the case as in the past the video via receiver has worked. It could perhaps be the length of the HDMI cable ? its a 3m cable to the receiver ?
Can someone explain please ?

I have had the same issue with an older Onkyo TX-SR605 that feeds an Epson Powerlite 3000 projector. If I have my pi turned on and then switch the Onkyo input to it, I get a blank screen and have to SSH into my pi, then sudo reboot, and everything works fine.
I have found that if I switch the Onkyo input to my pi before turning my pi on, it will work every time. I have had similar issues with this receiver and a google chromecast. This issue does not exist when I have my pi plugged direct into different monitors or tvs.
So, in my personal setup, I don't believe this is a retropie issue, but an issue with my receiver/projector.

Try this option in
/boot/config.txt
hdmi_force_hotplug Pretends HDMI hotplug signal is asserted so it appears a HDMI display is attached
hdmi_force_hotplug=1
Use HDMI mode even if no HDMI monitor is detected -
I have tried both those suggestions and neither has resolved my issue

Try a different cable. You can try boosting the signal also - did you look through the link I gave http://elinux.org/RPiconfig ?

Boosted the signal to 8 and I got an image but it was very fuzzy and looked like it was using less colours. So I then tried to boost it to 5,6,7 and got no image
Will buy a new HDMI cable when I am on my travels today but find it unlikely to be the cable itself as once upon a time the cable I am using now did provide an image via the AV receiver.
