New Arcade Build - 6 or 7 buttons? Help me decide!
-
Hey everyone!
I'm tackling my 1st cabinet build on a pi3+ and I'm going back/forth on the panel layout - and I know I'm definitely overthinking it. This is my first ever arcade build and first time using RetroPie - so a little bit of new territory.
In researching my preferred panel layout, I'm debating between a 6-button or a 7-button layout. The main reason I'm contemplating the 7-button layout is for NeoGeo games, specifically to have a row of 4 buttons across the top.
This is the layout I'm considering (minus the trackball, etc...)
Panel Layout
Button DescriptionsSince this is my first build with RetroPie/Emulation Station, I wanted to know whether I would run into issues with controller configuration with this setup?
I'd like my arcade games to use the 6-button "Street Fighter" type layout, but for NeoGeo, make use of the 4 buttons like a typical MVS panel.
Anything I should be aware of with this layout that might cause issues down the road?
Is it possible to configure them as such? (with 4 being duplicated?)
1 2 3 4 4 5 6
I'll be using two of those zero-delay USB encoders ever so popular on Amazon.
Thanks for the insight!

It depends if you are going to use any game that uses more than 6 buttons, i would generally recommend going for 8 buttons with no duplicate, and remapping the emulators on a per-game basis as you see fit.
