      hey guys, thought I'd put it up here instead.

      I've got a completely silent boot setup, so very minimalist and clean. I've limited the verbosity of my system to a strict zero at start up, it's almost zen like, just a beautiful black screen.

      But the moment I enable custom splashscreens I get a little super quick flash of text in the top left corner that pokes me savagely in the eye. It so loudly mocking;

      map: vt02 => fb0

      I think it's probably triggered by the "-T 2" in fbi -T 2 -once -t $delay -noverbose -a -l "$config" >/dev/null 2>&1 in asplashscreen?

      How do I go about suppressing that flash of text? Where does it come from? How do I kill the bugger? Help me out, I can't eat or sleep, I need to hunt this down.

        @senkun you would need to build own fbi. Or perhaps using a different VT could help.

          @BuZz thanks. I did try a different vt which didn't work. Short of rebuilding fbi, nothing else can be done? bummer.

              @Rion hey, oh yeah I did way more than the usual cmdline/config.txt tty3 quiet loglevellogo.nologo disable splash stuff.

              Should add I'm actually running attractmode instead of ES as the retropie frontend.

              ... Or perhaps using a different VT could help.

              This reminds me to always double check everything! I did try a different vt before posting for help, but I could've typo'd something it didn't work that time. Probably didn't expect it to be as simple as a vt change and dismissed it out of hand.

              Thanks a million man! I just retried and did fbi -T 3 and it is as simple as that. Peace and quiet, finally! Cheers!

                  Sorry to resurrect and old thread but could you please @senkun post you're finding to the wiki? The more I can hide when I boot up the better.

                    Don't think it would be relevant in the retropie wiki as;

                    ... I'm actually running attractmode instead of ES as the retropie frontend.

                    and what I did in addition to what the wiki has already covered very well was to pipe fsck messages away, not recommended. besides that, mostly to suppress the output from x/attractmode once it's running or when I exit and restart AM; which involved messing around with getty to hide the autologin/last login msgs, clearing MOTD, doing a .hushlogin, changing .bashrc, etc. I didn't really take notes and one shouldn't really be messing with those for retropie I believe.

                    as long as you have a splashscreen pic/video setup in retropie it boots very cleanly to ES doesn't it? you just need to follow the wiki to edit /boot/config.txt /boot/cmdline.txt and it will be clean all the way in except for the fsck msg.
