Using external DVD drive to play original game (not ripped)
-
[I’ve been using an RPI 3b for some years now. I project to change it for an RPI 4 4gb since PS2 emulation capabilities seem to develop fast. MY question is this: someone have heard of external USB DVD rom drive Implementation or support to be able to play original official games directly from disc for anyone of the CD based console like PS1 or PS2 , Dreamcast ? I have a large collection of official discs for these system and I think it would have been more practical , in my case, to play directly from the original disc. Anybody have a clue about something like this coming? #disc#cdconsole#original#official

You should look at the libretro.com posts on how this can be used from RetroArch and what systems are supported. At least for now (on a Raspberry Pi), PS1 or Dreamcast are supported. Dreamcast uses GD-ROM as disc format and I don't think it's supported right now by RetroArch. PS2 emulation is a bridge too far for the Pi right now (or any other non-x86 systems) and the only RetroArch core for PS2 is still in its infancy.
Take a look at this recent post on how to configure RetroPie to start directly a game from CD-Rom.

I confirm it's not supported, in the first place no normal CD-ROM drive can read them.
