Reicast not loading CHD files

I'm currently running the most recent Retropie image 4.5.17 on the RPi4. I installed Reicast under optional packages from the Retropie-Setup. I copied the BIOS files in the appropriate place and Reicast can load any GDI images I copy over no problem. However I would like to convert my GDI's to CHD to save some space so I followed the method under "CHD Archive Usage" here: https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Dreamcast

But for some reason Reicast will not load the CHD files, it just goes to the system manager screen where you can set the date, manage memory cards, etc. Again the GDI versions of these exact same games work fine and load straight into the game, but it doesn't seem to like them in CHD format. Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to change a setting somewhere?

What does chdman info -i <chd_file.chd says about the not loading CHD file ? Is the same thing happening with lr-flycast (file not loading) ?

So it seems the issue is that some of the Dreamcast roms I have contain a GDI, a CUE, and 3 BIN files. When I convert these to CHD Reicast (and lr-flycast) wont load them.

Others contain a GDI, 2 BINs and a RAW. The CHD file created by these, Reicast will load just fine.

So I guess if I have a CUE and a GDI in the same directory it confuses CHDMAN?

@Machtroid I have not had success converting .bin/.cue Dreamcast ROMs into working .chd files. Only .gdi format ROMs converted to .chd seem to work.

@Machtroid Depends how you invoke chdman. The new cue files are not supported (see this issue), converting directly from .gdi should work.

I have the same problem. My roms are all multiple .bin files and a .cue. If I use the .cue file, the game actually works. However when I convert to .chd it would go to system manager screen and stay there. I tried using isobuster to convert the multiple .bin files to a raw .iso file and tried converting to .chd from the .iso. It created a bigger size chd file, however it would still not work. Ideas?

@mitu Yes! So this is the reply (more like hard rejection): GD-ROMs are only supported from .GDI files. We do not plan to support other formats at this time. Correct?

Neither chdman, nor flycast are developed or maintained by RetroPie. There's no 'plan' for them here - you either use them according to their feature set/limitations or not.
