Major trouble getting my PS4 controller to be detected.
-
Hello people, I was hoping someone could help me. I just bought a Pi3 model B and I've loaded it with RetroPie 4.0 which is all up and running lovely. The main issue I'm having is getting my PS4 controller detected. Currently I am using a keyboard to navigate the menus but can't really progress further until I know I have a working controller.
I've searched online and in the forums for solutions but can't find anything that will work so I'm hoping I can get this resolved if I ask directly.
The controller isn't being picked up at the emulation station start screen or in the bluetooth settings. When I try to search for new bluetooth devices it just says "Searching..." for a long time with no result, which I'm able to get out of using ctrl-c.
This is my first attempt at using a Pi so I'd appreciate any help to get me started. Sorry if I've missed out any crucial information.

@Nosyar did you try holding the middle PS button and share button to pair the controller?

I've had a bit of trouble with my PS4 controller syncing on 4.0. Even after I finally got it to work I had to resync it every time I used it. I would recommend a PS3 or 360 controller if you have one, they seem to work the best for me.

@swandog I've tried that but no luck. I have found a couple videos online where people are able to get the PS4 controller to work but mine just isn't having it. I'll buy a PS3 controller and hopefully have more luck with that but would rather get the PS4 one working.

I managed to get mine connected but I am on a Rpi 2 and a bluetooth dongle. I have seen mention of the Rpi3 bluetooth having problems with retropie and using an external bluetooth dongle is working better(?)
But what I did is hold PS button and Share button until light strobes white, then using my snes controller or keyboard enter into the Retropie menu>Bluetooth> 'Register Bluetooth Device'> then it shows up as a bunch of numbers with 'wireless controller' to the right of it, and I select that option, then it asks about how to connect or something? Select the first option 'BlahYesNo' (can't remember the first part, but it ends with YesNo). Then I navigated back to the main emulationstation menu and did Controller Config and it sensed 2 input devices, I then held the PS button and went through the controller setup and was good to go.
I ran into trouble when turning off and turning on my pi, I have to go back to bluetooth settings and delete by registered controller then re-register it. Can't get the pi to auto sense it.

Haven't managed to get the PS4 controller to work so bought a PS3 controller instead, worked first time.
