The missing animations and the fact that the pc port of samsho5p is an actual port, we won't be seeing a "rom dump". I got it for free from the epic store and extracted its contents. There's no roms inside.

I notice it was free on epic they give away stuff for free all the time! They give devs better deals and take less money than valve/steam from devs that make games. It good to know nothing is in there but @barbudreadmon said they can be extracted with open source utils maybe ask him for more details on how to do it with the open source stuff

@grant2258 I said I extracted its contents. I used some util that was meant for the sf 30th collection. Nothing that resembles a rom are inside. sprite rips png's, webm's and other crap.

I havent even downloaded it maybe there is some other util he knows about. Hell maybe someone released it already time will tell. Does sound like a port rather than a rom from what youve posted though

@grant2258 This person used the same util and he got the same results I did:
              https://github.com/WydD/sf30ac-extractor

              https://www.reddit.com/r/SamuraiShodown/comments/h7cfx7/happy_samurai_shodown_pc_day_its_finally_here/ful38xw/

I lost interest to look into this further when I found out it was missing animations.

fair enough seems these guys have it done http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?280394-Samurai-Shodown-V-Perfect-Final-Edition-extracted-data but not sharing no doubt the roms will be floating about somewhere

@Darksavior everything is actually in there, all files need to be converted though, i thought every tool needed to convert the rom was public but it might be that the one to convert the sprite png into c1-c8 roms is somehow specific & private.

@arcadez2003 yeah, i didn't want to mention it yesterday but we were having a vote about adding the game or not, "yes" won :)

I stumbled upon a little problem: When I try to load the newest mame2003-plus.xml from https://github.com/libretro/mame2003-plus-libretro/tree/master/metadata or the one generated from the latest mame2003-plus core after an update from source, the current Clrmamepro version 4.037 (64 bit) says, "You either stopped the loading process or the file is corrupt."

The latest FB Neo dat file loads without problems, so I suspect the mame2003-plus.xml is somehow responsible. I'm running Clrmamepro under Ubuntu MATE 18.04 via wine. I could also test it under Kubuntu 18.04, but not today (it's 23:30 o'clock here).

Can anyone confirm the error or suggest a solution? Running Clrmamepro under Windows is not an option since I don't have a working Windows on any of my machines at the moment.

Aaand … over night, the problem vanished. (?!) 🤨

Really, the same Clrmamepro that refused to load the same mame2003-plus.xml yesterday is loading it without any complains now. Let's hope that it stays this way.

Sorry for having bothered you. Please move along. There is nothing to see here.

Another question: https://docs.libretro.com/library/mame2003_plus/#Building-romsets-for-MAME-2003-Plus talks about a complete MAME 0.193 or later romset collection and rollback set. Is this still valid or should it be updated to a later romset? Thanks.

There is some hard to get roms and i think acradez added some roms after like the renegade mcu ect that date of the roms listed. Generally that or a later version of the mame and rollbacks will get you most of the roms. Some sets wont be easy to find though.

Talk about an adventure. I decided to try and build my own set using a combination of 0.222 romset and rollback, 2003 chds and samples, and various bits and pieces to fill in the blanks. I had to hunt and peck on more Chinese, Brazilian and French forums than I care to admit. After all of that, I am 1 stinking file away from a perfect mame2003-plus rom/chd/sample set based on the latest DAT. My OCD is officially in hyperdrive.

Unfortunately it's nigh on impossible to trackdown 271-v1d.bin nowadays, hence the debate around if we should add support for the game to MAME2003+ in the first place
in the end repeated requests for it and the fact i managed to find a correct romset for kof2003d.zip from an ole emulator set i had backed up on disc sorta swung it.

As for the rom in question it was made available during the testing phase a couple of years back, with a bit of luck one of those who had access to it at the time might have
added it to the official MAME2003+ sets which are out there should you know where to look.

So I am officially an idiot. :-\

I was so hell bent on building a 2003+ set from scratch using the latest (just as a learning experience), I didn't even look at the 2003+ reference set I already had in my stash.

My newly rebuilt set is now complete. @arcadez2003 Thanks for causing the two fireflies in my empty head to bump into each other cause a spark. :)

There is some hard to get roms and i think acradez added some roms after like the renegade mcu ect that date of the roms listed. Generally that or a later version of the mame and rollbacks will get you most of the roms. Some sets wont be easy to find though.

Just a couple really the CPS1 prototype Gulan.Pa and T.A.N.K III Joystick Bootleg, both of which should be available now from the sites that update the MAME romsets most often.

                                        Another qq...

I thought that mame2003+ supported friendly button names in quick menu --> controls but I am not seeing that. I still see Button 1, Button 2, etc.

I thought I was going goofy becuase I knew I saw them before but that must have been FBNEO.

I think it's a per-driver configuration - some games have it, some don't. Try looking at galaxian.

I did try popeye and defender without success. I'll give galaxian a go once the rest of the family is awake.
