Runcommand's launching image: can I freeze it until I press a button to continue the game boot?
-
I've been thinking about ways to make the button mapping clear, as other than the Hori Fighting Commander, I can't think of any other controller that gets close enough to the "one size fits all".
So, problem: each controller has a different layout on different systems which makes everything hard to memorize button placement, eg: Sega has controllers with 6 face buttons and Nintendo has controllers with 4 face buttons.
My idea of possible solution: instead of a "loading screen" by using the launch menu art, I thought about explaining the button mapping with a single image. However, I can only set it up to "show for X seconds" - and I'd rather have a "press a button to keep booting the game". Is it possible in any way?
This is an example of what I've been working on, to give a better idea of what I meant:

I'm working on a similar project right now, however, I am using overlays rather than launch images. See this thread: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/26940/start-a-game-in-paused-mode-retroarch?_=1593783550430
I actually have the game pause once the rom is loaded and display the overlay that shows the controls. The
overlay_next
function is mapped to the same button aspause
, so, when that button is pressed, the game is unpaused and the overlay (bezel) changes to the transparent one. Doing it this way the user can press theoverlay_next
button and the game will pause and display the controls again.Once I have my solution exactly the way I want it, I plan on posting a how-to.
