A RetroPie updates doesn't delete or modify the ROM or the scraped data, so I don't think anything is lost. You can check where the videos are stored - where you added your video and see if it's there. Maybe download it and try to play it to make sure it's ok.

@lexieye Mitu is of course right!!!!
I made an extra folder (as far as "Personal screensaver" is concerned) and navigated emulationstation to use only this folder.
But as Mitu said: no folder containing Artwork is deleted with any update.

@sirhenrythe5th Hi there, would you mind elaborating on how you point emulationstation to use only a dedicated 'Personal screenssaver' folder? I'm new to all this as of about a month ago when I started my plans to build my own cabinet!

I'd love to set a single video as a screensaver and this particular video is not a game clip. I've got all my clips already sorted so I get a nice previews of each game as I navigate the games in the system menus. Many of the proposed solutions for custom screensavers seem to involve replacing these game clips but I'd love to know if it possible to keep all the game clips for use in the menu and have a totally different video used as the screensaver.

Any help on how you managed it would be amazing
                Thanks

of course, it is quite simple, but i never tried videos, i only have images for the screensaver.
Just create a folder with name and location of your choice (my setup: /home/pi/.emulationstation/screensaver_images/") and put your files in there.

After that you have just to navigate in the ES-Menu to -> "GUI-Options/Screensaver/Slideshow/".
In there is an option to set an extra path for the data used by the slideshow.
Im at work right now and cannot look how it is exactly named, but it is something selfexplaining like "use different path for image-data" or something like that.
Just select your created folder and there you go ;)

@sirhenrythe5th That doesn't work for videos, though.

@sirhenrythe5th Thanks for the info. I might have to got for a custom image slideshow instead of video. Thanks for checking too @mitu , I prop would have given it a try but I guess the slideshow prompt ins't linked to a video player of any sort. The hunt continues for what I'm really looking for, it doesn't even need to be a true screensaver really, if I could just play this one video clip even if I have to manually select it, I'd be happy.

Hi, was a solution for this problem ever found?

I'm trying to do the exact same thing.

                          Many thanks

Given that's something that needs developed, for now there's no solution.

Ah, I see, maybe one for the future.
                              Thanks for the reply anyway.

I discovered a little workaround if anyone is interested. It works for me because I don’t use video clips on my game menus.
Simply put the video you want to act as screensaver in a folder of your choice, and link it to a game using the metadata options. Of course that video will be displayed when you scroll over the game, but it will also be picked up by the random video screensaver.
