HELP - Changing Crosshairs in Seawolf?

I am trying to change the crosshairs in Seawolf. I found different crosshairs files at https://mrdo.mameworld.info/mame_artwork_supp.php but cannot find where to put them so I can change them. I see the option in the game settings but when I select it, I get nothing (presumably because nothing is there but the default).
The instructions at the webpage above are for a Windows installation so I need a little help deciphering it to Retropie. I'm running Seawolf on MAME 2016 v0.174
