Games not loading after moving rom drive to external storage
-
I used the how-to here (automatic method) to offload my ROMS to an external USB to spare wear on the SD card: Running-ROMs-from-a-USB-drive.
It works, but the problem I'm running into now is that after booting, it stalls for a moment during the load of ES and I can see the flicker of the activity indicator LED on the drive, but then it only loads RetroPie Setup when I get to the ES menu. None of the emulators with available ROMS show up unless I go to Menu>Quit>Restart Emulation Station; then I'll see the various emulators being found and loaded and I'll have them available as selections in addition to RetroPie Setup.
Has anyone else encountered this problem, and how were you able to resolve? -
EDIT: I meant to say ROMS folder, not drive. I don't see a method for editing posts apart from deleting and redoing, am I missing something?

Clicking on the 3 vertical dots at the bottom right of your post should allow you to edit the post.
Regarding your issue, it looks like the disc is not fully mounted when EmulationStation starts and the folders are not available. Depending on how large the disc is, this can take a few seconds. Edit the autostart script in/opt/retropie/configs/all
and insert a delay before EmulationStation starts:sleep 5 emulationstation #auto
You can adjust the delay (in seconds), depending on how much time it's needed before EmulationStation starts.

Thank you for responding so quickly to my question(s). The menu with the dots only gave me the option to delete the post before when I checked it but now gives me edit options. I'm not sure why, hopefully that was just a glitch.
As for the ES start delay idea, I'm about to call it a night but will try this tomorrow and let you know if it takes care of the problem. Thanks again.
