      Hello,
It appears perhaps my gamelist.xml is out of sync in some way. I can not seem to get it to update after adding new rom files to the /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/nes path.

If I rename the /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/gamelists/nes/gamelist.xml file and restart emulation station the NES console option disappears from menu. From reading the documentation it seems it should create a new gamelist.xml.
With the gamelist.xml file renamed and running:

      /opt/retropie/supplementary/emulationstation/emulationstation --debug

I get this output for NES:

Aug 23 13:31:33 lvl1: System "nes" has no games! Ignoring it.
      Aug 23 13:31:33 lvl1: Warning from theme "/etc/emulationstation/themes/carbon/ngp/theme.xml"
        (from included file "/etc/emulationstation/themes/carbon/ngp/../carbon.xml")
          could not find file ""

however there are .nes roms in the folder.

      Version information:
      EmulationStation - v2.9.3rp, built Jun 11 2020 - 04:42:04
      Linux retropie 4.14.98-v7+

Do you have the "Parse gamelists only" selected in the EmulationStation menu?

EDIT: EmulationStation doesn't automatically create gamelist.xml files for that. You have to use a scraper for that (built-in scraper in emulationstation, skraper, sselph scraper, etc).

How did you generate the gamelist.xml files in the first place?

Sorry for the delayed reply. I assume Emulation station generated the gamelist.xml for me when I first setup the system. I have never had an issue adding roms to the system before, they would just show up after restarting EmulationStation. I have done a couple of upgrades since I setup this system a couple years ago. Not sure if something broke from upgrading.

Let me know if there are other logs I should be checking to help narrow down this issue.

EDIT: I will check on the parse only setting.

Turning off "parse gamelists only" setting did the trick. NES loaded and I was able to scrape again and have a new gamelist.xml. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
