Yes, RetroPie-Setup has RetroArch pinned to a specific release version, it doesn't always build the latest version (right now is 1.9.0). Is there anything that was released in 1.8.9 that you need ?

@mitu yeah they fixed retro achievements from crashing when you unlock 2 achievements back to back.
Also if it's on 1.9.0 why am I only able to get 1.8.8
        Thanks for the reply also!

I think you misunderstood my previous reply - the latest version of RetroArch is 1.9.0, but it's not yet added to RetroPie.

Yeah I misunderstood sorry about that

Do you think 1.8.9 will be implemented at all? It just has a lot of cheevo fixes that I would like to have

@UberLumby There is a pending PR for 1.9.0 to be added to RetroPie, so it's planned.

@mitu I got a suggestion to do this
                "Download the repo: https://github.com/joolswills/RetroPie-Setup/tree/retroarch_v1.8.9+

Then replace retroarch.sh and the retroarch folder in:

                RetroPie-Setup/scriptmodules/emulators/

The 1.9.0 build script is not done. Use at your own risk."
If I did this would it even work or just make my image break

If you want to test the new version, you can do that - just back-up RetroPie-Setup folder before. Note that overwriting the files in the repository will not let up update the RetroPie-Setup script (git will complain).

@mitu gotcha thanks for all your help. Also if you had to guess when do you think 1.9.0 would be implemented?

If I have to guess, probably after 1.9.1 is released :).

@mitu I ended up doing it and getting version 1.9 and it seems to be working fine.. just curious retropie is still using 1.8.8 right? I wanna make sure I actually did it correctly
