I use the arcade folder for advancemame roms instead of the default mame-advmame folder, it also uses the .106 romset. I've had really good luck with it. but YMMV. You prob don't see it as I don't think it's installed by default.

      https://retropie.org.uk/docs/MAME/#advancemame-3

Once you check the runcommand.log file that should help, most of the time it's just the wrong romset you will see errors about missing files in the rom.

So I finnaly figured out that you find advmame in optional packages not experimental! I got teh game running, but there is no sound and the controls dont work in advmame. Do I need to configure them specially for advmame? It works fine in all other emulators.

        Thanks

@seismicsquall Advmame's input is not automatically configured after you add you gamepad in EmulationStation, like RetroArch. You need to use a keyboard and press Tab to bring up the MAME menu and configure your input.

@mitu Thanks. I'll give it a try today. Is it the same deal with the sounds output?

Golden Axe 2 does run well, with sound, using AdvanceMame on a PI3B+.
No idea why you dont have any sound:/

@seismicsquall Get the correct romset. https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Arcade/

The game has visual bugs with mame2003 so use mame 2010 or 2016. I like to use shaders so I don't use advmame.

I got it working with AdvanceMame. It seems the sound only works once you start the game (which I could not do earlier because I could not configure my controls). Once I accessed the advmame emulator menu by pressing Tab I was able to configure my controls and start the game.

After playing it for about 5 min I can say that I did no experience any sound or visual glitches - the shadows seemed fine as well.

                      Thanks everyone for your help.

@seismicsquall usually the US-Versions come with the FBI-Screen "Winners dont use drugs", but no differences in gameplay etc.
There are only very few games that really have major differences in Level-Design etc

Jeff Sessions should recuse himself from those.

@seismicsquall idk specifically for this one, but lots of US versions have some kind of censorship, grey blood and the likes.
