Hi, sometimes when I turn on my second controller, there is no way to tell which controller is player 1 vs player 2 until you launch a game. I know mitu told me how to do this to where the player 1 controller is the first one turned on, but I would have to recompile Retroarch from the source after commenting out:

      appltPatch "$md_data/03_disable_udev_sort.diff

I like the version of Retroarch that comes with 4.5.1 since I am more familiar with it, so I would rather not recompile from the source unless there is a way to preserve my current version???

Is there way to prohibit the player 2 controller from being able to operate emulation station (e.g not work the cursor to pick games)? That way I could know which controller is player 1 or player 2 very quickly.

The recent versions of RetroArch don't have the sorting patch, it's not needed anymore.

That's going to work only if you don't configure the gamepad in EmulationStation.
