One emulator installation failed, no emulators where installed at all

I'm using RetroPie 4.7.1 (commit 64053ff) installed on an x86 (x86_64) PC running the Raspberry PI Desktop OS (on Debian GNU/Linux 10 Buster) https://www.raspberrypi.org/software/raspberry-pi-desktop/

I've followed this guide https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Debian/ to install RetroPie.

The installation failed when trying to install mupen64plus. Here's the log https://pastebin.com/MhD4yRwd

It seems that mupen64plus is the first emulator to install. As this one failed, none of the following where installed.

Is this expected behaviour?
I can install all the other emulators manually.

It shouldn't have failed. The same compiler errror doesn't appear on Ubuntu or latest Raspbian (which is based on the same Debian 10/Buster).

It's something strange on this installation - the kernel looks like it's x86_64 (64 bit), but all packages downloaded are 32bit (i386) - is it a 64bit kernel with 32 bit userspace ?

@hiulit It used to continue on error (in fact many errors were not tracked), but I changed it when overhauling some packaging logic. I will change this back as I see your point. I was maybe being overly cautious - there may be a case where it's preferable to abort but I'll switch it back.

Maybe it should be a configurable option to abort on error.

I'm interested in your setup though as seems unusual as @mitu mentioned.

@buzz @mitu I have a VirtualBox's Virtual Machine set to Debian (64 bits) running Raspberry Pi Desktop (https://www.raspberrypi.org/software/raspberry-pi-desktop/), which may be 32 bits?

Then I followed the guide on how to install RetroPie on Ubuntu/Debian https://www.raspberrypi.org/software/raspberry-pi-desktop/
