Black Screen when launching emulationstation from start-up or console

Hello all, I installed this sd image for my screen here:

( If that helps at all )
I ran the retropie setup script and installed it and when i try to launch it from the command line ( emulationstation command, sudo emulationstation doesnt work )
When I run this it gives me a black screen with a blinking underscore and nothing even after an hour.

Sorry if this post was kinda hard to read and not well formatted, I'm exhausted.

Seems like a no-brainer, but Have you tried running only emulationstation instead of sudo emulationstation?

from the link it looks like a driver file (or is it a full image) of unknown origin for some sort of 3.5" tft, can you elaborate more?

Its a 3.5 inch TFT from TinyLCD. I am trying to run the program without root I have worked on this for like a full week now with no progress at all. I am thinking of just buying a car backup screen and a converter from hdmi and calling it a day.
If you need anymore info, then you can just ask!
