360 controller being overridden by usb remote.

I have looked but haven't found a resolution yet. I have a remote with a keyboard that attached via USB and I also have a 360 controller I use for gaming. I'm not sure if I accidentally changed a setting but here lately when I go to play a game the remote overrides so during gameplay I can only use it. I can remove the usb and use the 360 controller then but that becomes a bigger hassle. I'm fairly new with the pi in general and have been unable to figure it out alone. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
