Reset ES Theme

Hi, I somehow jacked up my EmulationStation theme running on my Raspberry Pi v3. It offers a funky display, and the UI Settings option is not visible at all.

From Raspi-config I have updated everything. Some errors were thrown but the installs proceeded. Even tried to install core components. What to try next?

Open the es_settings.cfg file (you can find it in \\retropie\configs\all\emulationstation) and set the theme to the default one, by changing the ThemeSet option to carbon:

<string name="ThemeSet" value="carbon" />

@mitu Thank you! That did indeed reset the the theme, but it seems I need to fix the display.

I have attached two photos.

Is blank. This is what is displayed when first loaded into ES. You can hear that the menus are scrolling to left or right, but see nothing change except for the bottom option bar (not sure what to call that).

After hitting the fire button a rom will load as normal. Exit back to the menu and most of the theme shows up, but no images or videos. Also, only the console menus will display characters but not the others (ie audio settings, retropie)

I do have a backup image, but cannot not roll back to it since it is so old. Are there files that I can copy from that image to fix this?

I have no error messages, but are there any configs that would be helpful to share?

Check how much VRAM you have allocated in EmulationStation and also how much GPU memory you have reserved for the PI3.

@mitu BAH I forgot to reply.
You are on to something because the lag is horrible as if resources are thrashed. I cannot seem to find the commands to get the vRAM and GPU. What are they?

Allocated VRAM is an EmulationStation option. For the GPU memory allocation, check the /boot/config.txt file (see also the docs on Memory Split).

Here is all I see in the /boot/config.txt, but they are remed out.

#gpu_mem_256=128
#gpu_mem_512=256
#gpu_mem_1024=256

I can not navigate in the UI to get to the ES options

I tried to remove the # from the entries but get access denied over scp. From the console, config.txt is empty using the vi.

On another note, I fried one of my Piv3 so got a v4. I read that it handles the gpu differently, but I still have the same exact symptoms with the image running on the new pi.
