Runcommand and setup running in small window

First things first,
Pi 4 (4GB) using official Pi 4 Power Supply
Version 4.7.1 built from official imageI have been using retropie on the pi 4 for months now with perfectly normal results. I decided to give Streets of Rage Remake a shot since it was recently updated, not realizing that there are still some resolution issues that need to be ironed out for it to work properly on pi4. In any case, after applying the script-based fix posted here: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/26266/anyone-managed-to-play-streets-of-rage-remake-on-the-pi4/2?_=1607219386665 I was able to get SORR running, but now everything in the console (runcommand, retropie-setup, raspi-config, etc) runs in this tiny window in the corner of my display even though the text size remains normal.
When rebooting, everything runs smoothly and at proper resolution (including splashscreen) as expected into emulationstation. All emulators run with the correct resolution. However, during loading and after quitting runcommand remains in this tiny 2-inch window in the corner of the display. Exiting emulationstation sends me to a tiny console window as well.
I verified that none of my default resolution settings in config.txt (or anywhere else I can think of) have changed (using mode 16 which has worked fine) which leaves me at a loss. Any ideas about how I can get these back to normal?

Thinking about this further, my theory is that at some point a setting got stuck with the different video group and mode that was forced by SORR - DMT 4 even though I got SORR working using CEA 1. (I'll admit that the first time I ran the runcommand script, I neglected to change the DMT 4 setting, which might've been what caused this entire issue)
Is there a place I should be looking where console would be "stuck" in DMT 4 as a video group/mode?
All settings I can find that are global are set correctly to CEA and my preferred mode 16.

Remove your
onstart
/onend
scripts and see if you still get the issue. -
@mitu just to clarify, should I clean them out, delete the files, or just take out the SORR additions?
-
Rename the files first and see if you still get the problem.

@mitu that cleared up the issue on all fronts thank you.
Just as curiosity, I went back in to see if there would be replacement onstart/onend files to see what they looked like in an operating state - and there were none. Is it normal not to have the onstart/onend script files for retropie functioning normally? I suppose I could always just create them and put the SORR script in with the proper CEA config if need be. Just wondering.
Thank you again!

@dclegend By default, there are no
onstart
,onend
scripts - it's an extension that can be used by users to add their own customizations.
