I am building an arcade cabinet and have some time to tweak my raspberry pi. Realized that games like BurgerTime dont work well and didnt understand that it was because the joysticks I use have 8 switches instead of 4. Is there a setting in MAME that I can go in and change to make those older games run better?

It appears that MAME 2003 Plus has an option to restrict it through software.

@yfzdude got it. So I would switch emulators for those games then tweak settings. Thanks.

Another, emulator-independant option would be to use xboxdrv, as it also has a 4/8-way option, see https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Universal-Controller-Calibration-%26-Mapping-Using-xboxdrv/#restricting-directional-control-to-four-ways.

              BurgerTime

I've been wondering how people can even play burger time in MAME, that constant digital noise is giving me a headache after 30 seconds.
