Sega CD games not loading

The BIOS file is not found by the emulator:
[libretro ERROR] Unable to open CD BIOS: /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/segacd//bios_CD_U.bin.
because:
[WARN] SYSTEM DIR is empty, assume CONTENT DIR /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/segacd/Adventures of Batman and Robin, The (USA).cue
RetroArch looks up the BIOS files in the System Dir, which RetroPie sets - by default - to the
bios
folder where you copied your BIOS files. Did you use the 'Reset Configuration' option in RetroArch's menu ? This would explain why the BIOS folder was reset. -
@mitu
I don't recall if I used the 'Reset Configuration' option in RetroArch's menu.
How do I check to see if it is pointed to the correct folder? -

I used Etcher to install the official Retropie image from https://retropie.org.uk to microsd

Should I reinstall Retroarch? -

Not sure if that would help, since you haven't said what you changed that reset the defaults. What you could try is to rename the configuration file for
segacd
(\\retropie\configs\segacd\retroarch.cfg
) and then reinstall thelr-genesis-plus-gx
emulator. The re-install would re-create the correct configuration file and you can then try again to see if the game works. -

(\\retropie\configs\segacd\retroarch.cfg
)Sorry, I don't see this directory.

@mitu
I found it under /opt/retropie/configs/segacd -

After trying everything I could think of (including what you suggested), it was still not working.I think I may have reset something while trying to configure the controls for PSX for a couple of games.
I have another microsd card, so I installed the Retropie image on that, and now SegaCD is working.
Thank you again for your help and prompt replies!

Just wanted to add that I have the same issue as OP. I have verified my games and bios, and just get a black screen. Have reinstalled retropie on my pi4 8gb as well, with no discernable difference.
Currently, I'm using the same (renamed) bios and games in Picodrive. But it would be nice to use Gen Plus as well (especially for .chd's)
This was my crash report from the other day: pastebin

@mitu yes this worked big thanks so i deleted the sega cd folder then reinstall genesis plus and pico drive works again yes!!!

I would just like to add that the BIOS file for lr-genesis-plus-gx is different from the one for lr-picodrive.It sounds like your lr-picodrive BIOS file is correct, while the one for lr-genesis-plus-gx is not (as mitu has suggested).
I'm pretty sure your issue is not the same as mine, since my BIOS files were correct. It simply couldn't find them due to mis-configuration.
