Raspberry Pi Power Switch
-
I have a power switch on my power cable for the pi. Do I need this or can I disconnect that switch extension and just turn the power on and off on my power outlet? Reason I am asking is that it is going into an arcade cabinet and the switch is just awkward on the inside of it. Just thinking is it ok to just shutdown the system after use and then turn the power off via a power outlet connected to pi?

@common763 You don't need to use the switch on the Pi power supply. All that does is stop power from flowing through the cable at the switch much like the switch on a powerstrip stops power from flowing to the outlets. As long as you shutdown the system correctly you can cut the power at the outlet (I'm assuming you are referring to the switch on a powerstrip or other similar device).

@simpleethat yes. So basically go to Shutdown system, have the pi connected to the strip without the switch then hit power off there correct? When I turn the strip on each time it will boot the pi up with no issues? Just dont want to damage anything. Being a little paranoid because I am close to the end of the project and dont want to mess anything up since it has taken so long to do.

@common763 as long as you properly shutdown the Pi (the emulationstation menu option for that is fine) and allow it to complete that before throwing the switch you will be fine.

@simpleethat thanks
