Pi 3B+ SD card overheating
-
So, I've had a retropie system in an arcade cabinet for about a year, no issues, everything was going fine until the system wouldn't boot on monday. I'm using a raspberry Pi3b+ with a microsd card I got off of amazon.
So, I'm working on troubleshooting, and replaced the Pi3b+. No go.
So, I flashed a new image of the SD card I got onto a new SD card, tossed that in the PI, and everything booted up just fine.
Tried restarting it, and the Pi got halfway through the boot and froze up.
I decided to try turning it off and reinserting the SD card, and reached for the card, and it was HOT. Like, almost enough to scald me. Now it won't start up at all.
I'm letting it (and myself) cool down a bit, but what in the hell is going on? Has anyone had issues with SD cards overheating?
For that matter, how and why do the SD cards go bad in the first place? Is it normal for the PI to cause the SD cards to get really really hot?
