Hi, just picked up my old Pi and wanted to update it.

As i forgot the credentials i tryed to follow PW reset here

But after step 2 adding 'init=/bin/sh' i got an error (bin/sh 0 can't access tty job control) on boot and couldnt proceed.
So i removed the added line and after boot i didnt require an PW anymore so i updatet retropi.
It did just some updates but not all because my image seems to be based on strecht wich is no longer supported.

Now i want to install it new but want to make a backup of my ROMs first.
I cant acces over putty because i have no credentials. If i put the card in my PC i only have acces to the boot section, windows wants to format teh other part of teh card. Cant shutdown emustation to acccess terminal because its asking for credentials.

Any ideas how to backup my Roms or reset PW?

If you exit EmulationStation, you don't have access to the command line ? You can use sudo to get admin rights and change the pi user's password (which I assume it's what you need).

@zonkhonk Not shutdown, just exit (press F4 or use the Quit menu).

@mitu The quit menue have the options:
              -restart Emustation
-Quit Emustation (leads to required credentials)
              -restart system
              -shutdown system

The F4 button leads me to the same credential prompt as hitting quit emustation

@zonkhonk said in Help Cant reset admin password(required to backup ROMs):

-Quit Emustation (leads to required credentials)

That's strange, the default RetroPie image doesn't enforce this - you should be exiting to the terminal, with a command prompt.

If you have access to RetroPie via file shares (at \\retropie), you can get your ROMs that way (from \\retropie\roms).
