When I connect to my Pi4b running Raspian/ES I often find that the "pi/raspberry" user can't login. I can connect to the device, put in my username, but all attempts at a password will result in Access Denied. I get around this by logging in as root, but that has other consequences so I'd like to get to the bottom of this.

I find this same outcome using Putty or Filezilla.

You're either typing the password wrong or you changed the pi's user password ?

@mitu I absolutely don't recall changing either. Very odd. I must be changing passwords in my sleep. hehe

Thankfully I have root access. I logged in with that, types 'passwd pi' and just put the default one back in there. All good now.

When using SFTP, it is HIGHLY recommended to change the default password.
If you are sure you didn't change the password, maybe somebody else did. 🤔
