Okay so here's my issue, I am new to the retro pie and am still learning but the performance of my games is often times slow. for an example when I play doom on my retropie and compare it to the snes version It is a huge downgrade. The snes version music plays well and is not messy but my retropie version is slow the music is choppy do to the lag and overall a mess. If there is any way I can boost my performance whether that's buying something or a setting I would be glad to here it . I play on a retropie 3 B+ and do not say double your ram

@zacc1 That is probably the first time I've heard the SNES port of Doom described as an upgrade.
My guess is you've got the resolution too high on the original version, the Pi 3 can only handle so much.
RAM in general is not an issue, the Pi's biggest bottleneck is its GPU.

@zacc1 Are you running the DOS version of Doom or a source port like lzdoom?

@zering I am sorry what is DOS
Edit: but mind you doom was a example. I have other games like super Mario 64, ocarina of time, sometimes occasionally my earthbound slows down its not just doom

@zacc1 Nintendo 64 games are demanding for the Pi 4, it's only partially playable on the Pi 3. You can get some games to run pretty well but it takes a lot of tweaking and experimenting and I'm not going to get into it as there are entire threads dedicated to this.
Snes should run smoothly on a Pi 3 though, in my experience I've only ever had trouble on a Pi 3 with SNES when I was using my old power supply, which was inadequate, and when I didn't have a cooling solution in place. SNES is demanding for the Pi 3, it makes it heat up fast which causes performance issues. An inadequate power supply will also cause issue, you should look into both.
DOS is an old operating system (like Windows or Linux) which was also a popular gaming platform, the original DOOM was first released on DOS computers. You haven't answered my question though, how are you running Doom?

@zacc1 We can't share links to ROMs on this forum, it's against the rules. Secondly I don't think Doom will play well on DOS on the Pi 3. Look at using lzdoom or lr-prboom.
The pi 4 will run most N64 games better right off the at, but there's still a lot of work involved in getting the best experience.
If you want to overclock either Pi the official power supply and an adequate cooling solution are essential.
