How To Setup AdvanceMAME With PS3 Controllers
-
Setting up controllers in AdvanceMAME can be tough, so this video tutorial so I put this together so you don't have to struggle like I did! :)
You can go here to download the config and skip everything I went through!!
AdvanceMAME_1.4 PS3 Controller 4 Players Config
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/eu37xn18wsafky9/AABNh3KFb6xQuipZSEr96SyGa?dl=0These configs will get your PS3 controllers working with AdvanceMame Emulators on RetroPie Systems. (AdvanceMAME 1.4 and 0.94 , wired and wireless PS3 controllers)
You will find the configuration for the controllers in: /opt/retropie/configs/mame-advmame
The controller config file is named advmame-1.4.rc.
Rename the default one to advmame-1.4.rc.bak or anything you want. I've also included the default config file in case you forget to back it up or need to start over.
Copy the 4 Player advmame-1.4.rc to the '/opt/retropie/configs/mame-advmame' folder.
After that restart EmulationStation to be sure the config gets picked up.
The config file will allow up to 4 Players to game at once.
Ways to access the config file to edit:
-
Install WinSCP and connect to your RetroPie using FTP: https://www.reddit.com/r/RetroPie/comments/6s2hds/easy_file_management_with_winscp/
-
In Windows connect using the UNC Path: \retropie\configs\mame-advmame
==============
Notes:
Playstation Home Button = Access MAME User Interface (Player 1 can do this)
O button = Enter Key while in interface.
L2 + R2 = Go back while in the interface.
L2 + R2 (while playing) = Pause Game or Exit ROM
L1 + L2 = Reset Game
Select = Insert Coins
Start = Start Game===============
Enjoy!! 🙌🏽

i had no problems at all using PS3-Pads with AdvanceMame.
Just configured them like usual in Emulationstation and made further optimizations within the well known TAB-Menu of MAME ("input general" -> "Start + Select" = "Cancel UI" etc.). -
@sirhenrythe5th Mine went crazy when using the well known Tab-Menu to set the MAME input. First controller was fine, the other 3 not so great. Once I got one straight I updated the config file to quickly setup the rest. I have it all pre-configured now so if I had to do it again its just a copy-past of the config file. Should save anyone else time.
