Currently whit all core available (apparently all lr- cores) support whitout any problems the savestate feature.
Whit the combination HOTKEY + Y you can open the retroarch menu and from quickmenu you can choose which savestate slot use.
      The default selected it's 0............

But if a savestate already exists it is not indicated in any way...... my idea/suggestion it's to add a feature to identify whether the selected slot is already occupied or not.
For example if you load a roms (for one lr cores) and you have already used the savestate you can see the number of slot selected in RED. IF the slot is free and there are no previous saves, the number could be GREEN.

I don't know if I have explained myself correctly..... but precisely currently for a specific roms when you play and open the retroarch you can't see whether or not you used the savestate before.
this could be indicated by showing the slot number with two different colors... RED if it's already used... GREEN if it's free and empty.

You'll have to direct this suggestion to the RetroArch/libretro developers - RetroPie just packages and configures RetroArch.
