Audio configuration with RetroPie and PIXEL on the same RPI4

Pi Model or other hardware: Raspberry Pi 4 Model B Rev 1.2
Power Supply used: 3.5A
RetroPie Version Used: 4.7.15
Built From: RetroPie 4.7.1 (RPI 4/400) image via Raspberry Pi Imager v1.6.1I'm running into a pesky audio issue when having both RetroPie and PIXEL desktop installed on the same RPI4. After reading through this thread, I'm able to get audio in emulationstation by uninstalling
puslseaudio
on my system. At the same time, I'm also interested in having the PIXEL desktop installed in order to compile and play other non-RetroPie games (e.g., GTA3). However, it seems that PIXEL installations requirepulseaudio
to output audio (which I uninstalled in order to output audio in emulationstation). For now, I created entries in my RetroPie Ports menu to install and remove
pulseaudio
whenever I feel like switching game modes, but it's not the most ideal scenario. I'm also not sure if this is the best place to post this issue, but I thought I'd give it a shot to see if anyone has any tips.Is there any way to have
pulseaudio
installed and still output audio in emulationstation? -

Try to choose default as the AudioCard and MASTER/PCM as AudioDevice in EmulationStation's Audio configuration.

@mitu Well... that worked! But now I'm getting the message
1v10: VolumeControl::init() - Failed to attach default card!
. Is there any way to peacefully get rid of this? -
That seems to indicate that the default option for the card is not working. Can you use the Audio menu in the RetroPie system and reset the audio settings, then see if you still get the message ?

@mitu that seems to have done the trick, thanks for your help.
