koi crash on new 4.0.2

since i have updated to new retropie 4.0.2 kodi no longer works.
it loads up but after 10 secs or so it crashes.
I've tried a completely fresh install but still no joy.
anybody else had this issue or know how to resolve it?

Unplug your controllers and try it.
