usb eject script with push of button

Please don't double post. I've merged your topics.

Regarding your question - you can use any of the GPIO button based solution to run a script (which can run your USB unmount/removal commands). You can use a Python script with any of the GPIO libraries that work on the Pi or a ready made solution like GPIOnext.
Remember that RetroPie is using the standard Raspberry Pi OS Lite on a Pi, so any solution that works on Raspbian/Raspberry Pi OS should work with RetroPie.

ok so can anybody tell me how to do what it is that MITU said to do??

@scabab1359-0 There are a lot of tutorials on how to attach and program a button attached to the GPIO pins on the Pi. Look them up and familiarise yourself with the process, then you can decide how you want to implement it.
I'd say that first you would want to test the usb eject scripts, without the buttons, so you'd know that the software part works as you'd like.

@mitu you assume that i write scripts, i dont. can somebody ELSE help me with this? I have been looking for this solution for 6 months on the internet and have found myself here. I didnt come here to be pointed back to the internet to look for solutions, i came here for somebody to show me what to do, thanks mitu but you are of no help to me.

@scabab1359-0 are you looking to hire a programmer? I'll do it; my rate is $35/hour plus expenses, but I'm very inexperienced so it will necessarily require many billable hours of research.

@scabab1359-0
sudo umount /media/usb
then something to restart emulationstation to parse the games on the new drive (may as well just turn off the pi / swap usb's / turn back on again)
. . . . doesn't sound like a great way of doing things tbh
especially when the issue can be bypassed by using one drive that is large enough for all your roms -
@lister-of-smeg If you saw the project you would understand what im doing and why im doing it.

@scabab1359-0 bump

@scabab1359-0 From what I've read, you're not doing much except making demands on a forum. Best of luck with that.
-
@weirdh from what i have experienced, this forum is full of people who are unwilling to help a guy out... this community
[edited] is lovely

@scabab1359-0 This community is made of people that work and tinker with RetroPie on their spare time, usually as a learning tool. If someone in the forum has already developed a solution for your problem they can help you with that, but coming to a forum DEMANDING a solution for a specific problem without any will to learn or do anything on your side is not going to lead you anywhere.

@scabab1359-0 When I first got my Pi, this community helped me learn the basics of RetroPie, Emulationstation and Linux within ONE week, yet somehow you have unsuccessfully been looking for a solution for six months?
You're clearly unwilling to put in the legwork to educate yourself and just want a hand-out without lifting a finger. That's not how it works around here.
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
