      Hi everyone.

Spent a few days trying to install lr-mess on Retropie as I want to get a few of the older home computers up and running.
lr-mess could not compile, and after a Google search, the upshot of it is that it doesn't work.
As MESS was incorporated into MAME, is there a way of utilising one of the MAME packages to get the old computers up and running?
I'm really looking to get the Sam Coupe and Timex machines running to start with.

Any help would be appreciated. Oh, and I've got a Pi 3.

      Thanks.

It does work, but compiling from source on a Pi will fail, due to the high memory requirements of the latest MAME version. Install from binary instead.
MAME (standalone from mamedev.org) is also included in RetroPie and you can install it and use it to emulate older system - the installation auto-configures only the arcade emulation so you'd have to create configurations for the desired systems yourself.

You can take a look at @Folly's scripts that expand on lr-mess/mame to add support for various systems supported by MAME - see https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/29682/.

If you wish to emulator emulate just a couple of systems, it may be easier to use the emulators for those systems

          @vasquez109

I just tried generating module-scripts for samcoupe and spectrum with my script.
I have found a small bug that will prevent generating module-scripts for samcoupe.
If you want to try my script you have to wait until I have fixed the bug.
          I probably fix it tomorrow.

          Edit :
I updated all scripts, everything should be fine now.

I tested some games from "samcoupe_flop" in mame.
They work very good on the pi4.
Just typing boot and they will run.
(edit : I added the possibility to install autoboot in systems with extras -> full / semi automatic boot)

Only one thing, the used cursor keys for playing games are :

            • for many games a,s,o,p,space.
            • for some games q,w,space.
            • other games use the normal cursor keys.

So it's advisable to use the game specific runcommand loaders for mame or lr-mess.
That way you can customize the keys used per game.
