@adambegood Check the core options menu in Retroarch to make sure that the cursor is enabled and set to mouse. I think the Sinden lightgun uses a mouse as the cursor.

@g30ff Interesting, that sounds like a possible solution. I'll give it a go!

          Hi again,

Did you find that you had to do some kind of calibration to get MAME working? I've found NES, SNES, Dreamcast and PS1 are all happy enough and seem calibrated without any bother but my lr-mame2016 cursor is nowhere near to being anywhere particularly useful.

@adambegood I have to eat crow, I can't get the light gun to work in lr-mame2016 now. I don't know if it was a driver update or what, it just will not run. I admit I haven't used mine in several months, and I've done multiple full updates of my Pi since then.

I suggest if you really want help, to go to the Discord.

@g30ff No worries! I'll tinker for a bit longer. I can get the cursor to move in response to my gun, it just isn't calibrated well.

I've got lots of games to try in the systems I have anyway. Thanks for all your help up to this point.

@adambegood For me it seems to be broken in all of my emulators. I can pull the trigger, and the test application works, but I can't get the cursor to work in any games.

If your problem is your calibration is off, you can adjust it for each player, by editing LightgunMono.exe.config:

                <add key="CalibrateX" value="" />
                <add key="CalibrateY" value=””/>

@g30ff What a nightmare! Hope you sort it out quickly, I wonder what has happened there?

I have been modifying that config file, but I am not sure that is the issue here as it does work for the other cores. I don't want to be amending the values now that it works.

Has anyone got Resident Evil: Survivor on PSX to work? The calibration screen says to hold A+B alongside Trigger to confirm calibration, but that doesn't seem to work.

I wonder if the Sinden buttons behave differently to the GunCon buttons, and that is the issue here. Or maybe I am just being daft in some way. I can't get past the calibration screen.

Edit: This was on the Japanese version, as I couldn't get the European version to work. After checking Runcommand and some Googling, it was mentioned that a similar previous issue ("Error opening CD-ROM plugin!") had been resolved by updating from source. This turned out to be the case, and the European version works now.

I still had trouble calibrating, it didn't seem to see the gun at all. I got around it by starting with a joypad in Port 1 and then switching the gun to Port 1 once I was in the game. Bit of a workaround, but it works and that is good enough.

Separately, if anyone has got 3DO to work, I'd be interested to know your bindings. I can get the gun to work in that I can see the cursor moving, but I can't seem to get it to select menu options and start the game.

Their size and weight is perfect for a tall, middle-aged, fairly sporty man like me.

@clyde - Did you ring your bell? Sporty? ...it's exactly what I envision when it comes to retro-gaming with plastic guns. You have such strong and rugged fingers for shooting. The trigger guard is a perfect size! You crack me up, that made my day reading your Pro's list! :)

I just read through the Indiegogo page for the Sinden Light Gun from top to button and thought...yay! Then I read through this thread from top to bottom and thought...nay! :(

Did you guys find the guns hassles and high asking price worth it? I think it would start out strong for me and then kind of fizzle after the novelty wore off. I find a set at $360 US a bit overpriced to find out they work mediocre at best.

i had the same thought. there are plenty of games i would enjoy with them. but i cant bring my self to pay that much for them.

i did get to play with them, a coworker got them. they do feel nice and have a qualty build to them, but getting them working can be a pain at times. but i only go so far messing with them before he took a new job else where

Are you guys using the bare bones (ver 8 now) image? I got it set up working pretty easy, and im no tech-guru AT ALL. Nes & Psx is pretty much plugn n play. Mame works but needs some calibration in the retroarch gui. Havent started tinkering with dreamcast yet, too many projects..

I am pretty sure I still want to get one of these because the other options just are not that great for light gun games. But I agree that given there are only a handful of light gun games I want to play it isn't going to get used all the time. I haven't committed yet because I was thinking about waiting until the delay between placing an order and receiving it was less than a month. Who knows how long that will take though.

I've got wiimotes and finally picked up a dolphin bar, but for some reason on my x86 setup it seems jittery and I noticed when I am pulling the trigger the cursor won't move at the same time. I have to stop shooting in order to aim elsewhere. (Area 51 on MAME 2003 for reference)

Does the Sinden do well at aiming movements while you are non-stop shooting in game?

@ExarKunIv - Thanks for the reply guys. My main usage would definitely be MAME and it seems there's a bit of fiddling to be done there. I would also try other consoles just for the entertainment and fun value.

It would have to work on a Pi as that's my main platform device that sits by the main TV. We carved out a fairly large space in the basement for the Oculus Quest 2 that would be a better fit. I like the Oculus but for me it's more of a party trick than a long relaxing gaming session device. It's great fun in a group setting.

Though I don't think I'm quite there yet to pull the trigger on a purchase after reading and watching some videos.

Reading through the Indiegogo page it looks fantastic on paper and I really like his vision and goals to bring a light gun redesign and new games (and remastering old classics) to a larger market.

I just think the marketing is stronger than the actual product. I saw someone mentions a dedicated setup interface for configuring and troubleshooting would be nice too to facilitate setup.

had a quick look at MAME2016 as I want to try Beast Busters but couldn't suss that at all just yet

Weirdly, i couldn't find any mention to FBNeo in this topic (we do support Beast Busters). For the record, it has excellent lightgun support (see https://docs.libretro.com/library/fbneo/#mapping for setting devices & controls in FBNeo), recently we even hacked rambo3 emulation so that it would be 100% playable with a lightgun (the game is not meant for a lightgun, see https://github.com/libretro/FBNeo/issues/965).

@barbudreadmon - Thanks for pointing that out I think it's worth keeping note and a check in the pro gun box. Also nice hack on Rambo III. Have a great weekend!

Thanks to all for all of the info above. I'd really like to get one or two of these guns for my dedicated arcade cab. I'd run it on MAME so the above will definitely be helpful.

The RPi 4 that I have running the show in my cab has every USB port accounted for as I have a keyboard, Pixelcade, and my arcade controller (which uses 2).

I know there are USB hubs out there- has anyone used one for 1-2 Sinden guns with any success? Any particular hubs you could recommend for this use case, or am I headed for a tripwire here?

As with most new toys and retro gaming, it all has a learning curve.
I have 2 units with recoil and I do enjoy them.
Yes a few things to setup and understand, but its no different then the first time you loaded up retropie and started messing about.

The cost is a bit high but then again its a hobby and if you love killing zombies and the memory of "Action" in Time Crisis then why not. Time is Ticking and life is sort.
