Latest retropie on RPi4. Using MAME 0.139. Have 2 USB arcade controllers, each of them has joystick and 10 buttons. In 2 player games like Streetfighter both joysticks and buttons work as expected but if I play a game like PacMan for 2 persons then person 2 has to use the joystick for person 1, the second joystick does nothing in this game.

Is this by design? It's awkward because when sitting at my table top it means constant switching seats instead of each of the 2 players having their own joystick.

      Any advice?

Yes, some arcade games support 2 player play, but have only 1 set of controls, players taking turns to play. Have you seen the packman cabinet ? It only has 1 set of controls - https://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=10816.

@pietdummie Some of these have a Cocktail mode which might enable your player 2 controls, but flip your screen upside down when it's player 2's turn.

Simple rule of thumb: If the game doesn't have simultaneous 2 player action then it's most likely built for only 1 control set and you have to take turns on the player 1 controls.

My suggestion: make a lazy susan for the base of your tabletop.

@pietdummie quick menu > controls > port 2 controls > mapped port:1 should map the gamepad in port 2 to port 1, so that either one will work. (I don't know what happens when you press "start" on P2, though. Does it work as 2P start, or does it read as P1 input and just start 1P? You'll have to test...)
