Hey, all! I'm fairly new to retropie so please bear with me but I am having trouble getting any ROMs to start successfully. There are a couple things going on but first here is my info:

    Raspberry Pi 3 Model B Rev 1.2
    Official power supply (5v / 2a)
    RetroPie 4.7.19
    BUILTFROM: Raspberry Pi Imager
    USB: Controller, wireless keyboard
    CONTROLLER: Vilros SNES controller

I installed RetroPie using the official guide and out of the box the ROMs would crash immediately, exiting to the list of roms. The default emulator was snes9x2005 and this is the error I get:

    snes9x2010 / snes9x2005:

    pi@retropie:~ $ cat /dev/shm/runcommand.log
    Parameters:
    Executing: /opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/bin/retroarch -L /opt/retropie/libretrocores/lr-snes9x2010/snes9x2010_libretro.so --config /opt/retropie/configs/snes/retroarch.cfg "/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/snes/Super Mario World (USAyyy).sfc" --verbose --appendconfig /dev/shm/retroarch.cfg

So I then tried snes9x and the rom starts but all I see is green dots and purple bars at the top. No audio at all.

    pi@retropie:~ $ cat /dev/shm/runcommand.log
    Parameters:
    Executing: SDL1_VIDEODRIVER=dispmanx /opt/retropie/emulators/snes9x/snes9x "/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/snes/Super Mario World (USAyyy).sfc"

Could not find joystick mapping forController, use default
    No ROM file header found.
"" [bad checksum] LoROM, Corrupt, Type: ROM only, Mode: 00, TV: NTSC, S-RAM: 0Kb, ROMId: Company:

I'm not really sure what to do next. I have updated everything, have tried many types of roms and changed video settings all to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

@asktheaxis your rom seems to be corrupt.
      Where did you get those?
I never saw a "Super Mario World (USAyyy).sfc" before.
I would suggest to try other (more known/valid) romfiles.

@sirhenrythe5th lol, I am getting lazy with all the different copies of roms while trying different things. Naming shouldn't affect anything though right?

But I have gotten them from various places, all of which have many other people supporting their validity. I will keep trying different sources though.

@asktheaxis it should not be too hard to find a correct rom for SNES, it may become much harder when you decide to go for arcade roms ;D
However: a sidenote, you can keep the SNES roms in zip-format.
Try to search for zipped roms with the addition "good", "[!]" or "tosec".
          Those will work for sure.
