Is it possible to play regular old Linux games?

@SHiLLySiT yes that system is already done, its called ports. but you can set any system you prefer with emulationstation:

@herb_fargus Oh duh, now I feel silly. Thanks!
-
@SHiLLySiT also quick tip: that game can automatically be installed in the ports menu if you use zerojay's module to install it from the experimental menu of the setup script. its called gamemaker: https://github.com/zerojay/RetroPie-Extra

@herb_fargus Awesome! Unfortunately I cant seem to get Maldita Castilla to recognize my IPAC. :(
EDIT: Apparently having a real keyboard plugged in confused the game.

HI there!
I've installed the 3 GameMaker games following these steps https://github.com/bite-your-idols/gamemaker-retropie and they work just fine using a keyboard.
Now, I'm using this software https://github.com/adafruit/Adafruit-Retrogame to simulate a keyboard when pressing arcade buttons and it works just fine with all the systems.
The problem comes when I try to play, for example, Maldita Castilla, with my arcade buttons connected to the Raspberry Pi via GPIO. It's like this software doesn't run in this game. I've already tried unplugging the keyboard, like @SHiLLySiT suggested, but nothing.
Do you guys know what might be the problem? -
I'm having an issue with Maldita Castilla not recognizing the inputs via GPIO. Here's the topic, if anyone could help https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3223/inputs-not-responding-when-using-gpio-arcade-buttons-on-maldita-castilla-port-game

Can someone help me? I am still trying to add linux games to my retropie. More specifically I am trying to get my linux games from humblebundle onto retropie. I am so confused please help :(
-
@SHiLLySiT can u explain how you got it to work to me PLEEASE
-
@fri3ndlygiant if they are binaries for x86/x86_64 Linux they will not work. If they work on the pi from terminal or desktop, they can be added via a simple launch script in ports
-
@BuZz So There Is No Way To add normal linux games?
-
@fri3ndlygiant Depends whether they are already available in Raspbian, or have source available. Games which work on the Raspberry Pi can be added to the ports menu. If by "Normal Linux" you mean games which are binary only (eg via steam) and support PCs then no (Unless they are open source and can be rebuilt for ARM).
-
Theoretically, you could get Android games (.apk) to work with apkenv or Shashlik, though I've never actually tried that on a pi.
-
@BuZz I thought I heard there was a way to get steam games on retropie?
-
you can stream them with moonlight/limelight. Never tried it / don't have required hardware.
