USB Keyboard and Bluetooth Controller: No inputs. Dead in the Water.
-
Hello everyone,
I have enjoyed using my RetroPi for over a year. Today, I found my bluetooth 8bitdo controller would not connect to it. I plugged two different USB keyboards into my RetroPi, and neither one now allows inputs to be received.
In other words, my RetroPi boots perfectly into the title screen to select Super Nintendo, Nintendo, etc, but no devices can send inputs. This means I cannot get into the setup screen to reconfigure or re-pair my bluetooth controller.
I would provide more details about my RetroPi version and everything else, but I can’t because none of my devices now work to navigate the main screen.
In the past, I was able to plug a USB keyboard in and then pair my bluetooth 8bitdo using this control menu. Now, nothing works to move to the Setup menu on the RetroPi screen.
As the title says: I am dead in the water. Can someone help me?

Use SSH to access the Pi and run the setup from a SSH session:
cd $HOME/RetroPie-Setup sudo ./retropie_setup.sh
Did you change any configuration recently on your Pi that could have triggered this issue ? Are you using a reliable power source for your Pi (and not some phone charger) ?

Thank you very much for your quick response. I will try this when I am back home tomorrow and report back.
I have never changed the configuration. Once I got it up and running a year ago I didn’t want to touch it. ;)
As far as the power connection, it is very reliable. The power is directly connected from the pi to my power outlet.

Update: I got my controller working again with RetroPi.
Root Cause: I tried two wireless keyboards and hard wired them via USB to the RetroPi. Neither one was recognized.
Solution: I used a regular USB keyboard that I use on my PC to connect to RetroPi. It immediately connected and was in use.
I had to then go into the Bluetooth settings and ‘forget device’ my 8BitDo controller. I then re-paired it using the menu and it worked like a champ. :)
