      Hi,

      i got my first Pi today:

      Pi 4 2gb
      I have booted into OS and checked eprom is up to date etc and latest firmware all good.

      Used Raspberry Pi Imager and other images to flash image onto sd for retropie but get stuck on initial boot screen with message

      start4.elf is not ocmpatible this board requires newer software

      despite using latest images and everything being up to date.

      Any help would save me going crazy thanks :/

        @jimbob_2003 are you sure you used the right image for your hardware? For Pi 4 that's the "4/400" image: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/releases/download/4.7.1/retropie-buster-4.7.1-rpi4_400.img.gz

          @jimbob_2003 Try the latest weekly build: https://files.retropie.org.uk/images/weekly/retropie-buster-4.7.20-rpi4_400.img.gz

            @darksavior CHeers but tried that.

            It’s a simple process so can’t see what’s wrong which is more frustrating after spending 10+ hours on it yesterday with multiple cards images etc

              Is the Raspberry OS bootable?

              My English isn't at a good level.

                @windg

                Yes and worked fine until tried to install retropie on there which was a very long install but started coming up with errors towards the end and wouldn’t work following that

                  RetroPie doesn't support the new RasPi OS version (Bullseye). If you wish to install manually, start from a RasPI OS Lite image and use the legacy Buster version - https://www.raspberrypi.com/software/operating-systems/#raspberry-pi-os-legacy.

                    @jimbob_2003 I helped someone else with the same problem you're having. Download the weekly build image that I linked to. Open the pi imager, choose custom, and choose the weekly build image. Bullseye and 3rd party images are not supported.

                        @Darksavior Hi, when you write this image with Rasberry Pi Imager it says it will delete your existing image from the SD card. Is this the case and do you just re write the existing image that would not work before after you do this?

                          @TimD123 When you write an image it will delete the previous image every time. This temporary fix is outdated. You can now use the retropie 4.8 image.

                          You can make an older buster image work if you replace some boot files (I don't know what they are) or put it in an older pi4 and update it that way.
