Pi Model or other hardware: B+
Power Supply used: Original Pi PSU
      RetroPie Version Used: 4.5.1
      Built From: retropie-4.5.1 -rpi2_rpi3.img.gz
USB Devices connected: PS3 controller & usb keyboard
      Controller used: PS3 controller
Error messages received: none as such

Hi! I'm going to attempt to update a Pi3B+ to the latest version.

I've got the ROMs, configs and bios folders backed up.

Can I just update from Retropie-Setup Script > Update or will I need to download the 4.8 image, write that to my SD card and then copy my backed up folders over?

You can't update in-place, you'll need to install from the 4.8 image, then transfer back your roms/bios and - from the configs folder - the emulationstation configuration.

@mitu Thank you - will I be OK just to copy the entire configs folder over to a fresh install of v4.8?

As I said, I suggest you copy just the emulationstation folder from configs. Your version is quite old and other emulators' configs may not fit the current platform. You'll have to re-configure your gamepad, but the front-end configuration should be kept.

@mitu Understood, thank you. I'll give it a go and see what happens. 👍
